The Rhythmic Music Conservatory Brings Mali to Aarhus

Students from the Rhytmic Music Conservatory in Aarhus have visited the West Africa country of Mali, and now visitors at Aarhus Festival have the opportunity to experience first hand the result of their musical voyage.

The first concert performed by the students and their counterparts from the Conservatoire des Arts in Bamako, Mali, yesterday at the ‘City Stage’ in Mølleparken was a hit with audiences as well as reviewers. The Danish music magazine GAFFA gave the concert a five-out-of-six-star review, saying:

“The very best musicians from Mali alongside a group of talented students, who inspire hope for the African music tradition in our part of the world. Simply fabulous."

In addition to the students from the Conservatoire des Arts, the performances also feature some of Mali’s biggest musical stars such as kora performer Mamadou Sidiki Diabaté, the singer Safi Diabaté, and singer and dancer, Charles Niare.

The entire ensemble performed Monday night at Musikhuset Aarhus and are playing again wednesday night at Mølleparken.
